Apex, North Carolina: A Great Place to Be!
Welcome to Apex, North Carolina! Apex is a turn-of-the-century railroad town, brimming with contrasts. Downtown is charming with its 1914 Railroad Depot (now the Chamber of Commerce) and rows of old shops within walking distance of the station. Surrounding downtown are historic homes and huge oak trees.
Only minutes from downtown's shops and restaurants are housing developments of all ages. Due to the convenient location near Raleigh, Cary, and Research Triangle Park, Apex is steadily growing with homes available in price ranges for all budgets from $80,000 to $350,000. New apartments are plentiful, too. Apex continues to give small town charm in a progressive environment.
Apex is in the heart of the Research Triangle. Its closest neighbors, Cary and Holly Springs, are also rapidly growing communities which offer additional restaurants, shopping, housing, and recreational facilities. Raleigh, the state capital, is less than twenty minutes away. Commuting is easy to employment centers in Research Triangle Park, Regency Park, and Raleigh.
The climate of this region is mild, and outdoor activities can be planned all year long. The mountains in central North Carolina are three hours away and the Atlantic Ocean is a two hour drive. But there is no need to travel that far to enjoy the four distinct seasons! Apex has its own one hundred acre park with beautiful walking trails. Within a twenty minute drive are Umstead State Park, Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve, Fred Bond Park, Lake Wheeler, Jordan Lake, and Harris Lake.
Educational opportunities are abundant. The Wake County public school system is the best in the state, and the highly educated population of this area intends to keep it that way. Wake County is well-known for innovations in education, including the magnet school program which offers parents choices for their students such as classical studies, extended day and year-round calendars, and gifted and talented programs. Most of Wake County schools are on a traditional school calendar; the year-round programs are offered as an option that some families love. Higher educational opportunities are also plentiful with large universities like Duke, NC State, and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and also smaller colleges like Meredith, Peace, Wake Technical Community College, and others.
Newcomers are welcomed to this area. After IBM first chose Research Triangle Park in the early 1 960s, other companies followed suit, bringing newcomers from all over the world. Cultural diversity and a highly educated population have made us strong and tolerant. People like it here and welcome the opportunity to share their experiences.
